Found. I had to look at every page, but I am not exactly sure why. Foundmagazine.com is a catalogue of stuff found in the street, left in copiers at Kinkos, tucked in used books. Something in me just had to put an eye to every keyhole. Something just wants to spin sad stories out of the scavenged grocery lists, laundry-room threat letters, strange old photos, stacks of lotto tickets, a beat-up toy. The experience has a little of the allure of that vaguely creepy, very sweet Jean-Pierre Jeunet film, Amelie. It shimmers with the semi-magical possibilities of lost, discarded and forgotten bits of people's lives. I'm starting to feel sure there'll be treasure in the in the street on my morning walk to coffee.
Another home of docu-voyeurism: The Smoking Gun features scans of scandalous documents from the police report on this week's Backstreet Boy bust to Osama's terror manual to Al Gore, Sr.'s FBI dossier. Why can't we look away?
